Walk, unite, fight. This slogan of the 25th Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer was amplified as close to 12 000 participants joined the five kilometre walk for a common purpose in Gqeberha, East London and George. Presented by ISUZU Motors South Africa, the Big Walk for Cancer is a testament to the power of unity, and a reminder that much can be achieved collectively in the battle against this formidable adversary.
Not even the cold and wet weather could dampen the spirits of the participants completing the 5 km emotional journey. A true celebration of life. Thousands of people, everyone with their own personal story. Some are celebrating victory over cancer; others walk in memory of someone who courageously fought the battle and will never be forgotten. Others are walking with someone who is currently fighting cancer. Battling cancer is a marathon, not a sprint. Usually, people have lots of support when newly diagnosed, but then people carry on with their own lives and it becomes a very lonely journey. The Big Walk shows them, you are not alone!
The Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer donation to Wings and Wishes will ensure that twe can continue booking flights or bus tickets for children and their caregivers. Their sponsorship will also provide a snack pack and toiletries for the journey.
