Tayden to receive treatment in Austria
Aug
Wings and Wishes first flew Tayden, age 22 months, and his mom Brene, to Red Cross Children’s Hospital in August last year. At that stage Tayden had been in out of hospital for most of his short little life and he also had a feeding tube inserted into his stomach through which he received all his liquid feeds. Shortly after this, Tayden stopped eating and drinking completely and is now fed solely through the peg in his stomach. He suffers from Cricopharyngeal Inco-ordination Syndrome with Laryngeal Incompetence, as well as GORD. He gets fed every 4 hours through the tube in his stomach, which in essence keeps him alive.
Brene eventually found a clinic in Graz, Austria where children like Tayden are taught to eat and drink normally. He will learn to eat and drink through a programme monitored by medical professionals. The 3-6 week programme has incredibly high success rates and is world renowned.
Wings and Wishes has agreed to fly Tayden and his Mom to Austria in October this year. The family is trying to raise R180 000 to pay for the cost of the treatment. So far fund raising efforts stand at R133 000. Tayden leaves for Austria in 40 days time, and the family still need to raise R50 000.
