Wings and Wishes (W&W) was established in 2006 after a group of employees from the Coca-Cola Sabco (Pty) Ltd (CCS) headquartered in Port Elizabeth, identified the need in their community and started donating their frequent flyer miles as part of an internal Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. The miles were committed to facilitating the transport of critically ill children and an accompanying adult to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, or an alternative appropriate medical facility, for treatment. The project is currently registered through the Coca-Cola Sabco Community Foundation Trust (CCSCF), which is independently registered as a Non Profit Trust, Non Profit Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation. The project is funded entirely through donations and is supported by many individuals and organisations in South Africa. In the many years of transporting critically ill children, the project has grown, providing a very professional, compassionate and essential service in SA- currently transporting approximately 500 critically ill children every year.
Initially founded and run by employees (as volunteers) and supported by their company, the initiative has leveraged core business expertise, influence and opportunities-making a positive impact on the lives of critically sick children.Furthermore this initiative has actively embraced and facilitated core CCS company values maximising staff engagement, morale and community spirit.
We are dedicated to transporting critically ill children to receive life-saving treatment.
Transport should never be a barrier for a child to reach life-saving treatment, wherever they live.
To provide compassionate support immediately, with minimal bureaucracy, whilst maintaining the highest levels of integrity for critically ill children and their families.
- Critically ill children (minors): 0-18 years
